Child Development – Cambridge National Level 1/2

Description of activities:

 This course will develop a student’s understanding of the following areas:

  • Health and well-being for child development
  • Understand the equipment and nutritional needs of children from birth to five years
  • Understand the development of a child from birth to five years

Learning will be assessed by:

  • Unit RO18 – 50 % - A single 1 hour 15 minute examination covering:
  1. Reproduction and the roles and responsibilities of parenthood.
  2. Antenatal care and preparation for birth.
  3. Postnatal checks, postnatal provisions and conditions for development.
  4. Recognition, management and prevention of childhood illnesses.
  5. Child safety.

 

  • Unit R019 – 25% - Controlled Assessment: investigation tasks. 
  1. Demonstrating an understanding of the key factors when choosing equipment for babies from birth to 12 months.
  2. Demonstrating an understanding of the key factors when choosing equipment for babies from one to five years.
  3. Demonstrating an understanding of the nutritional guidelines and requirements for children from birth to five years. 
  4. Demonstrating the preparation a feeding solution for 0-6 months.

 

  • Unit RO20 – 25% - Controlled Assessment – A Child Study Task. 
  1. Demonstrating an understanding of the physical, intellectual and social developmental norms from birth to five years.
  2. Demonstrating an understanding of the benefits of learning through play
  3. Be able to plan different play activities for a chose developmental area with a child from birth to five years.
  4. Be able to carry out and evaluate different play activities for a chosen developmental area with a child from birth to five years.
