As a school we embrace language learning, recognising the importance of equipping our students for life in a multi-cultural world. Our skilled staff are passionate about language learning and strive to make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all our students. We encourage active participation in lessons and expect students to complete a learning, research-based or written homework task each week to help them achieve their potential.

All key stage 3 students will have the opportunity to study Spanish.  We encourage as many students as possible to gain a qualification in a modern foreign language and we also support those students who wish to take a GCSE in their heritage language.

In key stage 3 students learn the vocabulary and structures needed to talk and write about a range of topics related to themselves including family, friends, school, free time, holidays and the local area. They also have the opportunity to learn about the culture and traditions of those countries where Spanish is spoken.

Those students who opt for a modern foreign language at key stage 4 follow the AQA GCSE course. This builds on the language already learned at key stage 3 and extends it to enable students to develop the language and skills needed to communicate when travelling, at work and for further study.

In Years 7, 8 & 9 students have the opportunity to study both French and Spanish – their main foreign language for three lessons a fortnight and the second foreign language for two lessons a fortnight.
