Careers Guidance at The Academy, Selsey
The Academy, Selsey believe that through high-quality provision of careers education, information, advice and guidance, we can prepare our pupils for the world of work and opportunity to build a career beyond Year 11.
Students across both key stage 3 and 4 are actively involved in a wide variety of activities, lessons and workshops focussed on careers and their future. We work with a range of external partnership agencies, including NCOP (National Collaborative Outreach Programme) which aims to increase the number of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in higher education by 2020, and the Local Enterprise Partnership, through Coast2Capital.
The Careers Team at The Academy, Selsey is made up of:
Mr Nick Brown (Deputy Headteacher and Careers Lead)
Miss Chris Willshire (Careers Co-ordinator)
Measuring Impact
The Academy, Selsey are following the Gatsby benchmarks, which set out the standards for careers guidance in schools and colleges, with reviews carried out each September and March. The START online careers platform is monitored by form tutors for all students in Years 9-11. We are working with The Skills Builder Partnership to increase pupils’ awareness of essential skills: listening, presenting, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork, thereby linking learning with careers.
