Key Stage 3

In KS3, students learn about the various drama skills, drama styles and drama genres, using key drama terminology to help them develop practical group work and individual skills.

During KS3, students explore a variety of topics including Mask, Silent Movies, physical theatre, pantomime, theatre in education projects and a variety of play texts such as; ‘Oliver Twist’ and ‘Free!’. All of the units are designed to develop student’s communication, group work and understanding of theatre through exciting, focused lessons.

Assessment in drama uses the Arts Council of England and Drama Objectives Bank combined with the Edexcel GCSE Drama criteria:

AO1 – Creating

AO2 – Performing

AO3 – Responding and evaluating

The lessons are mainly practical, but evaluative work through written self and peer-assessment helps students to see progression. They will also experience review based written assessment at the end of the academic year, exploring their understanding of developing practical drama and responding to live performance.
